The heart note, made up of medium-volatility molecules, lasts a little longer than the top note. It gives body and character to a composition. It links the top and base notes and includes mainly flowers and aromatics.

The base note, made up of heavier essences, has the most persistent scent. Its fragrance lingers delicately, while the other notes have evaporated. Used as a final touch, in minute quantities because of its power, its main role is to stabilize the other notes. It is extracted mainly from fragrant bark or roots.

NB. - Some notes have two functions, as a top note or as a heart note (head-heart), or as a heart note or as a base note (heart-base), depending on the theme of the aromatic composition.
